The Utzon(x) team consist of a strong mix of researchers and practitioners working with both architecture and structural engineering. All staff has an affiliation to the Department of Architecture and Media Technology at Aalborg University or the Utzon Center.
Head of Utzon(x)
Isak Worre Foged is MSc.Eng.Arch. from Aalborg University, Aalborg and M.Arch. from EsArq, International University of Catalunya, Barcelona. Currently a PhD Fellow at Aalborg University, he explores a novel theoretical and methodological integration between environmental architecture, tectonics in architecture and computation. He is a member of SARC, research group for sustainable architecture, Aalborg University and OCEAN, Design Research Association. Isak co-founded the research based architectural studio AREA in 2010, located in Copenhagen. The studio runs parallel and intertwined with academia to develop and apply research into the built environment. Research and built works has been published and presented in Europe, Scandinavia and the US.
Head of prototyping and lab facilities
Mads Brath Jensen is MSc.Eng.Digital Design from Aalborg University, Aalborg. He is currently Laboratory Engineer at the Department of Architecture and Media Technology and responsible for the Departments work on advanced fabrication and the Utzon(x)lab. Mads is the former partner of architectural office Electrotexture Lab working on new architectural technologies and advanced fabrication
Head of Exhibition activities
Lasse Andersson is the Head of Exhibitions / Chief Curator at Utzon Center. He holds a master degree in Architecture from the School of Architecture in Aarhus 2003 and a Ph.D. from Department of Architecture and Media Technology at Aalborg University in 2009.
From 2004-2014 he had several positions at Department of Architecture and Media Technology amongst others associate professor and Head of Urban Design from 2012-2014. He is one of the founders of the innovative project Platform4 merging new technologies and art. He has several curated exhibitions in the field of architecture and technology and participated in several architectural competitions from 2007-2014 amongst others Thomas b. Thriges Gade, Gellerup masterplan, New Vestre Fjordbad and Rebild Infohouse.
Lars Juel Thiis holds a master degree in Architecture from the School of Architecture and a post graduate from AA London. He is founding partner of the Architectural Office CUBO and from 2012 adjunct Professor at the Department of Architecture and Media Technology at Aalborg University. 2011-2013 Lars Juel Thiis was head of the national Arts Council Denmark. Lars Thiis’ work is routed in a Danish and Nordic approach to architecture with a high architectural sensibility, always taking site, material and user into consideration.
